A tangy, black or green effervescent tea-based beverage, kombucha is often flavored with fruit or herbs. The fermentation process also often produces a very small amount of alcohol – usually less than 0.5 percent by volume, but sometimes as much a 3 percent. It is something that has been described by some as tasting something like apple cider, but it depends on exactly how it is made. Not everyone believes kombucha is beneficial to health, but like all fermented foods and drinks, if it isn’t made properly, there is always a chance of contamination.
